Advocate

Not everyone has the gift of articulation. Expressing profound and difficult issues which resonate in the hearts and mind of others, is very special. If this is you, join us.

Our Mission

The Kind Heart Bench Project addresses the pressing issue of mental health, exacerbated by the challenges of generational trauma and the COVID-19 pandemic and other societal stressors and vulnerabilities.

Our Partners

Through strategically placed benches our project provides a tangible and accessible resource for individuals seeking mental health support in community, educational institutions, public spaces, and the workplace. Leveraging partnerships with mental health organizations, such as our partners, Hope House Counselling & SADAG and our manufacturing partners, Masterdecks & Ticktin Timbers, we aim to foster empathy, inclusivity, and kindness within society.

Building Resilient Communities

The Kind Heart Bench Project is a non-profit organization committed to promoting mental health and community well-being.

The Kind Heart Project aims, with the support of Western Cape on Wellness, our partners, (including other professionals and counsellors) to help address the issues around peer pressure, bullying, and other mental health issues.

Accessible Locations

Our primary initiative, with the help of funding, involves installing Wi-Fi-enabled benches in public spaces, ensuring individuals have access to mental health resources wherever they may be. These benches serve as safe havens for open conversation, peer support, as well as accessing help via our partners and online mental health services.

Lives Impacted

“The project is not area specific but works with and is linked to various organisations like our partner Hope House Counselling with centres in Table View, Kuils River, Tokai, Khayelitsha and Cape Town.”

Make A Real Change In Someone’s Life

Listen to needs, offer support, empower skills, inspire change. Be the change, connect resources, pay it forward.

Events

Take a journey through time and relive the memories of our past events. We’ve compiled a selection of highlights to remind you of the incredible experiences we’ve shared together.

Retreat Station

A yellow bench – aimed at combating mental health issues – has been installed at the Retreat train station.

The bench forms part of a broader initiative called the Kind Heart Bench project. ‘What we want to create is a safe space where you can have a conversation with someone and know that there are support structures,’ says Bradley Bailey, the founder of the Kind Heart Bench project. ‘If it saves just one life, then it is successful.’

St Oswalds Parish

As ST OSWALD’S PARISH is the oldest church in the Milnerton area and surrounds, and as it reaches it’s 110th year of Mission and Ministry, we would like to celebrate this milestone by setting up a project which will not only reflect our vision, but actively contribute to positive action within the local community.

To this end, two Kind Heart Benches have been donated and installed on the intersection near the church entrance.

San Souci Girls High School

To date, this project has gone into seven other schools, in Goodwood and other areas, two public spaces, been seen on national television, published in two magazines and several newspapers, broadcast on radio stations and has impacted many.

The Kind Heart Bench is a permanent reminder to the public to take a minute out of their day to sit, breathe and talk about their mental health and that of their peers, offering a safe space to connect with others, openly sharing their stories and ideas.

Our Offering

The Kind Heart Bench Project offers a unique solution to the mental health crisis, promoting empathy, connection, and support within communities. Through innovative approaches to fundraising, marketing, and operations, we aim to expand our reach and make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals struggling with mental health challenges. Together, we can create a more inclusive and compassionate society where everyone feels valued and supported.

Art Therapy Workshops

Through partnerships with local artists and mental health experts, we will organize art therapy workshops aimed at promoting emotional expression, healing, and self-discovery. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in creative activities that foster self-awareness and resilience.

Peer-to-Peer Training and Trauma Workshops:

We offer training sessions and workshops on peer support, trauma-informed care, and mental health awareness to schools, businesses, and community organizations. These sessions will be conducted by experienced mental health professionals and peer mentors, providing valuable knowledge and skills to participants.

Merchandise sales: Apparel

We will design and sell branded apparel, including t-shirts, hoodies, and accessories, featuring empowering messages related to mental health awareness and kindness. A portion of the proceeds from apparel sales will directly support The Kind Heart Bench Project’s initiatives.

Merchandise sales: Art

Collaborating with local artists, we will create and sell artwork inspired by themes of empathy, compassion, and mental health advocacy. These pieces will be available for purchase online and at community events, with proceeds contributing to our funding efforts.
